unconceivable soundscape

For 80/35’s 2018 theme, a swarm of “unreal” musical creatures descended upon the city. Winged microphones, cassette tape dragonflies, speaker bats and instrument-laden monsters welcomed 34,000 fans to this unbelievable celebration. The theme emphasized that on paper, Des Moines’ largest music festival in the heart of the city seems unthinkable. But year after year, music fanatics come together for a colorful, crazy mashup of creativity and culture.

Our creative elements supported digital and social media promotion, as well as traditional radio and print advertising. These elements were also infused into the 80/35 website and mobile app, creating a fresh experience on a reliable framework. When combined with posters, signage, banners, passes and apparel, 80/35’s unconceivable soundscape became a completely immersive experience.

Additional creative: Brian Sauer (creative director, illustrator), Nick Imerman and Michael Blair (art directors), Stone Mills (copywriter), Maranda Orth (intern)
